Respite Care

Respite Care is perfect for when your carer is planning a trip, has an appointment to attend or for emergencies, such as your carer has an unplanned hospital stay. Respite can also be a practical solution for those who are recovering from an illness, injury or returning from the hospital and need additional support and services. Concept Care’s Respite Services can be accessed for a few hours, a few days, or longer – depending on your needs

How Much Respite Care Are You Allowed?

The amount of respite care can vary depending on the individual, their needs and their situation. Sometimes your primary caregiver may only need a few hours a day or week, or at other times this could extend to overnight to a few weeks.

How is Respite funded under the NDIS?

Under the NDIS operational guidelines, respite (referred to as Short Term Accommodation) is funding for support and accommodation for a short time away from your usual home. Short Term Accommodation covers the cost of your care in another place for up to 14 days at a time.

Short Term Accommodation (or Respite) covers:

  • Your personal care;
  • Your accommodation
  • Your food; and
  • Your activities

Usually, you are only permitted 28 days of Respite per year.

Cost of Respite

The cost of respite differs greatly between individuals as it depends on their needs, length of stay, level of support needed and how inclusive they would like the service.

At a basic level, in-home respite is generally the more affordable option. In-home respite only requires the support services and not accommodation charges.

However, out-of-home respite is slightly more expensive as it includes the cost of the support services and a portion of your accommodation cost. Sometimes people opt for out-of home respite as a reason to go and try new things as means to reach their goals.
